  Catherine died two weeks after Emily was born, she had been riding sidesaddle when the horse startled near a gate. Catherine was thrown from the horse and landed on top of a gate post on her stomach prior to giving birth, it was believed that this accident contributed to Catherine's early death she was only 37 years old.
